Celebrating National First-Generation Day
November 8th is National First-Generation Day!
Led by the Center for First-Generation Student Success, National First-Generation Day is an annual celebration of the success of first-generation college students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
Why November 8th?
November 8th celebrates the signing of The Higher Education Act of 1965 (HEA) by President Lyndon B. Johnson. The HEA worked to level the playing field in education for Americans of minority and low-income backgrounds. This bill created federal grants and loans to help finance students' educations and also created numerous programs to promote postsecondary access, retention, and completion for low-income and potentially first-generation graduates.
